Principal Scientists drive a research agenda and develop R&D opportunities that require engaging with customers.

Projects at Galois are most commonly led in a partnership between a Project Lead (PL) and a Principal Investigator, who writes the original technical proposal for the project and serves as technical lead.  The PL’s part of this picture is to ensure the project delivers value to the client on time, on budget, and according to plan.

One of the things that is important to us is working on projects we’re proud of—projects that try to contribute to the good in the world. We are quite intentional about this, and we have captured our intentions in something we call the “boundary policy.”

At Galois, we don’t have managers in the traditional sense, nor do we operate within a fixed hierarchy of rigid positions and titles. How then do we organize ourselves within this seemingly loose structure? The cornerstone of our work together is the relationship between internal customers and performers.

With no traditional hierarchy or managers, the process of finding projects to work on can seem daunting. How do we ensure that research engineers find projects so that both project needsand individual needs (like interesting work and career growth opportunities are met?
